Role Purpose:

This role involves the maintenance of equipment in the Laboratory space to ensure everything runs smoothly.  The incumbent should also Conduct safety inspection and also conduct research and development with the purpose of upgrading the equipment for improved performance at reduction of maintenance cost. This also includes PMS (Planned Maintenance Systems) and Analysis of machines to determine what spares need to be used. Preventative maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment is also the responsibility of the incumbent. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for breakdowns and also attend to electrical and mechanical breakdowns, facility maintenance work ( scraping/ painting/ improvements- any engineering support that might be required at the site, apart from all the other listed requirements).

Required Qualifications:

  • Recognized Millwright trade test
  • Wireman’s license added advantage
  • Reliable vehicle and valid drivers license

Required Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years relevant experience in maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Advantage - experience in electrical breakdowns
  • Advantage - experience in poultry laboratory equipment
  • Advantage - experience in PLC and VSD
  • Advantage - Knowledge in boilers, augers and conveyor systems will be an advantage
  • Strong Electrical understanding within a Plant Environment (70% Electrical/30% Mechanical)

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly.
  • Inspect drives, motors, belts, bearings, replace filters and perform other maintenance actions. 
  • Assemble, install and/or repair, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment on steam and waterlines. 
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Projects and machine installations.
  • Ability to communicate on all levels.
  • Ability to work systematically.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Report writing and analysis.
  • Mentoring apprentices.
  • Must be able to work shifts and be available on callouts and standby if required
