Requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in Agriculture (3 years)
  • Valid Code EB drivers’ license
  • 7 years relevant experience in a similar environment, 5 of which should be in a management capacity
  • Knowledge of Poultry production inclusive of laying, rearing, breeder and broiler management
  • Excellent people skills

Key Responsibilities:

Production Planning and Management

  • Production Management of a multi-age complex (10 sites) – closed climate control housing
  • Establish and maintain systems for the production of the highest quality A-grade fertile eggs across the region.
  • Oversee the distribution of eggs.
  • Liaise with the agricultural planners to ensure alignment of operations.

Strategic Contribution

  • Input into SIA operational targets, set clear production-related cost centre targets and monitor their achievement across the region.
  • Conduct weekly operations meetings to address challenges, review performance and plan for future optimum production.

Services Management

  • Manage the supply of advice, services and products to farm managers.
  • Manage regional systems and procedures.
  • Oversee the services contracts operating within the region and their performance against standard.
  • Maintenance and capital projects in conjunction with the regional maintenance manager

Financial Management

  • Formulate and manage the cost centre budget (including employee costs, utilities, maintenance, outsourced services and consumables).
  • Formulate and implement approved capex plans relevant to the operational area of responsibility taking into account long term sustainability and return on investment.
  • Cost & Capex Management
  • Manage the procurement process within responsibility thresholds and oversee stores requisitions.

SHERQ Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant TQMS (including specific key account requirements) and health and safety regulations for optimum production and the provision of a safe working environment.
  • Ensure environmentally sustainable practices are implemented and adhered to and that resource usage is managed effectively (e.g. water, electricity and gas).
  • Work with external and internal auditors to ensure non-compliance is identified and addressed.

Information Management and Reporting

  • Establish a system of accurate data management ensuring that accurate and up-to-date information is captured into the system daily.
  • Report on operational performance and compliance to the Regional Agricultural Manager.
  • Ensure accurate data capturing and recording for reporting purposes

Regional Management

  • Conduct regular site visits.
  • Lead and develop staff within the context of the Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Skills Development Act.
  • Champion training and development of the team through the utilisation of available training opportunities or contributing to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with regional and national training specialists.

Maintenance

  • Ensure that an equipment maintenance programme is formulated and implemented to maintain the working condition of equipment and schedule routine or non-routine maintenance.
  • Monitor the execution of the maintenance programme.
