Role Purpose:

Perform all key Responsibilities of a Veterinary Technologist in a Veterinary Laboratory.

Required Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Competency in Serology & Bacteriology.
  • Computer literacy required
  • Experience with a LIMS
  • Previous Experience as a SANAS Technical Signatory
  • Effective time management skills
  • Proven willingness and ability to coach and direct staff
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently when required.
  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 17025 and of DOA & SAVC Requirements. 
  • Valid South African Driver’s License and OWN transport 

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • National Diploma in Veterinary Technology.
  • Registered as a Veterinary Technologist at SAVC.
  • Comply with the SAVC CPD Requirements for Veterinary Para-Professionals according to ACT NO 19 OF 1982).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an ISO17025 SANAS accredited laboratory.
  • SANAS 17025-2017 Certificate

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, organise and control the activities for serological evaluation using prescribed procedures.
  • Ensure that all incoming samples are correctly identified and processed in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Ensure that examination of all samples commences as per sample receipt and handling protocols.
  • To provide accurate, timeous and reliable results in all areas of responsibility. 
  • The microbiological evaluation of samples received from various customers. 
  • Responsibilities of a SANAS technical signatory 
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating new methodology; participate in validating of methods. 
  • Ensure that all equipment in the department is maintained in a safe working condition and that specified items are check in accordance with protocols. 
  • Participate in Proficiency Testing Schemes and that the results trended and evaluated.
  • Ensure effective stock management programs. 
  • Ensure quality management system adherence.
  • Meet the requirements of ISO 17025, DAFF, SAVC and other regulatory bodies that may be applicable.
