Role Purpose:

To perform skilled maintenance, installation, repair and inspection work on complex refrigeration equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/ Senior Certificate
  • Refrigeration Technician Trade Test Certificate              
  • Refrigeration Cat B Ammonia Certificate

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years post qualification relevant maintenance experience in a production environment

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound experience in a food-manufacturing environment.
  • Be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, overtime and do standby duty.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have good numeracy skills.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to document records.
  • Must have knowledge of safe handling of gases.
  • Must have knowledge of basic electricity and electrical and solid state control systems.
  • Must have knowledge of the operating principles.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Providing new installation service, repairing the existing, replacing the tempered parts of refrigeration units.
  • Install refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • Inspect various systems and their components like ventilation unit, cooling units, exhaust fans, and other sections to ensure proper functioning of the device along with safety and identifying necessary repair and maintenance service.
  • Diagnose problem and/or failures in refrigeration systems to identify equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance as needed and/or assigned to ensure the ongoing functioning of refrigeration systems.
  • Cleaning the parts like coil, drain lines, cooling towers, condensation pans and other essential parts to ensure that units operates properly.
  • Preparing technical documentation and record various issues, material, logs time and specifications. This provides written support in compliance with conveying information.
  • Requesting parts and necessary equipment for the purpose of inventory maintenance to ensure the availability of required items and tools to complete the necessary installation and repair work.
  • Coordinate with administration and other staff to complete the ongoing project or work order efficiency.
  • Test components using electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Charge and leak test the refrigerant charged systems.
  • Perform pre-start up checks on equipment and adjust as necessary.
  • Lay-out and install reference points for determining equipment location.
  • Repair various items, systems and/or components to ensure that equipment are available and in safe working condition. Electrical and mechanical activities with reference to preventative maintenance and construction work.
  • Maintain tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Report work in progress to the Plant Engineer in order to take appropriate and necessary action in case there are some issues or delay in work.
  • Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the line manager, including connecting refrigeration lines and electrical power sources, handling hazardous refrigerant substances, and checking systems and equipment for leaks.
  • Conduct daily checks on all refrigeration systems and equipment as detailed in preventative maintenance schedule.
