Role Purpose:

The sampling of Hygiene surveys after depletion and washing at Breeder and Broiler farms according to pre-determined schedule

Conduct vaccination audits on breeder farms

Conduct ZA certification audits on facilities where necessary

Collection of critical blood samples on breeder farms post vaccination

Assist with Animal Welfare Audits where necessary

Collection and delivery of survey plates at the laboratory and ensuring cold chain are maintained to avoid contamination of samples.

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • Diploma in Animal Health with SAVC registration.
  • Minimum 2 years’ working experience in the animal health industry 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that Biosecurity rules are always followed.
  • Collection of Hygiene survey plates at the laboratory and ensuring that cold chain is maintained in transit.
  • Ensuring that sampling of Hygiene surveys at all Breed and Broiler sites are conducted in a sterile manner to avoid contamination of samples.
  • Ensuring that critical blood samples are collected and sent to the laboratory in a timeous manner
  • Compilation of reports for the farms
  • Work closely with Laboratory Manager in developing and maintaining high-performance sampling and record keeping.
  • Implement safety protocols around sampling programs and ensure full compliance to Health & Safety requirements while in the field.
  • Monitor performance of sampling, identify risk and weaknesses and non-conformances, implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate the non-conformances and review the implemented activities at set frequencies to ensure effectiveness.
  • Ensure staff training is done as per training schedule.
  • Review sampling programs, procedures and reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
  • Plan and conduct follow-up technical/ biosecurity audits to ensure that all corrective actions have been   successfully implemented and maintained.
  • Meeting deadlines for SANAS/ DoA requirements.
  • Identify and develop the identified “calibrated standards” to ensure information transfer is done without error.
  • Train staff in sampling and problem solving to improve on performance overall performance.
  • Train staff in Health & Safety requirements pertaining to their technical activities.
  • Keep the Laboratory Manager informed of the progress of studies and audits and discuss problems.
  • Ensure all equipment used for sampling is maintained in the correct manner and safe condition and oversee that the safe working conditions are met by all staff using the equipment.
  • Ensure equipment safety SHE programs are in place and relevant to comply with legislative requirements.
  • Manage site top risks relevant to chemicals, media, kits and programs for sampling.
  • Ensure that all equipment documentation and necessary quality control documentations are done in accordance with standard  operating procedures.
  • Budget and stock management based on procedural requirements, sample numbers and sample frequencies.
  • Understanding impact of global events and effect of stock availability for imported stock items.
  • Develop programs to ensure only approved, valid consumables are available for use.
