Role Purpose:
Responsible for the business risk register, designing processes, policies and procedures to identify and manage threats to the achievement of organizational or business objectives. In addition to threats to the organization and its employees, the role is also responsible for identifying and reporting on strategic and emerging risks via stakeholder engagement, assisting the development of mitigations to protect the Groupβs customers, reputation, assets and interests of stakeholders.
Required Qualification and Experience
- Minimum of a B-degree (commerce, science, engineering)
- Minimum 4 yearsβ experience in Audit or Risk Management.
- Experience in the Poultry Production and Distribution industry would be advantageous.
- Traveling will be required.

Key Responsibilities
Risk Management
- Assist the Board and Engineering & Risk Executive (E&R Exec) to establish and communicate the organizationβs ERM objectives and direction
- Assist management with integrating risk management with the strategy development process
- Assist the CEO, Executive Committee and Engineering & Risk Executive (E&R Exec) to develop and communicate risk management policies, risk appetite and risk limits
- Assist in developing risk mitigation strategies for the organizationβs critical risks and for monitoring these risks
- Establish, communicates and facilitates the use of appropriate ERM methodologies, tools and techniques
- Work with divisions to establish, maintain and continuously improve risk management capabilities
- Facilitates enterprise-wide risk assessments and monitors priority risks across the organization
- Maintain Group strategic risk register
- Implement appropriate risk reporting to the CEO, Executive Committee, Board and senior management
- Ensure effective alignment between the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process and all assurance providers
- Coordinate the development of the annual Group Risk Management Plan based on the principle of combined assurance
- Monitor and validate the effectiveness of mitigation activities including independent effectiveness reviews (performed by Internal Audit and external assurance providers). Assess the impact of residual risk and ensure action plans are developed by management to address gaps
- Conduct risk management education and training from time to time.
- Manage IRIS scanning dashboard β internal and external.
- Manage and summaries OFIβs from underwriters reports and Risk Grading Audits (RGAβs)
- Assist/facilitate Annual Insurance declarations.
- Consolidate and ensure insurer notifications are prompt and accurate.
- Manage insurance claim and notification register assisting the business to achieve timeous close-out and notification.
Budget
- Prepare annual budget for risk management
- Monitor actual costs against the budget monthly
Risk Committee Reporting
- Consolidate documents for submission to the Risk Committees
- Co-ordinate with other assurance providers (internal and external) and report results Risk Committee
Operational Management
- Manages direct report daily to ensure that the team attains the KPIβs
- Drive a culture of commitment to Key Performance Indicatorβs (KPIβs) by creating awareness and providing recognition for attainment of KPIβs within the team
- Utilize regular communication channels and team meetings to promote continuous improvement and best practice
- Measures and deliver on KPIβs in terms of procurement contracts and SLAβs and motivate the team to surpass the standard to deliver overall functional strategic goals
- Participate in cross function team meetings to deliver on operational requirements and translate this into action items
Information and Data Management
- Ensure assistant accurately and regularly captures data onto the information system to enable access to reliable data and reporting for trend analysis and decision making
- Share relevant data with management teams to enable reliable business decision making
Technical Expertise
- Provide technical expertise and training to internal customers and colleagues
- Provide expertise in management team meetings and recommend solutions based on findings
Financial Management
- Manage costs to ensure the optimal utilization of assets and budgets
- Report to manager on a regular basis on actual KPIβs versus budget and work with team to address and areas of non-conformance or concern proactively and timeously
- Authorizes expenses within level of authority and monitor spending activity to ensure compliance to financial and ethical standards
- Implements and encourage cost management initiatives where these do not impact on long term business sustainability
Contribute to Functional Strategy into Action
- Works in conjunction with the Group Audit Services to co create national strategy, based on a 2-to-3-year view of requirements
- Determine capacity required across both the medium and the long term and plan accordingly
- Work closely with management teams to ensure the delivery of group benefit
- Suggest improvements to annual functional Strategy into Action plan and manage the co-creation of the audit contribution to the plan
- Ensure the agreed SIA is implemented through team targets and that these targets align cross functionally within area of responsibility
Provide Leadership
- Leads team towards meeting strategy and targets through regular communication and utilization of full organizational talent management tool set
- Manage and deliver on succession plans to enable the development of a future generation of leaders and specialists and ensure optimal turnover and retention levels are maintained
- Drives Employment Equity within the team to ensure that diversity is achieved at all levels and that statutory targets and requirements are met
- Champions training and development team utilizing available training opportunities or contributing to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with regional and national training specialists
- Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the regional team
- Develops and manage high performance multi-disciplinary teams in order to solve problems
- Encourages skills workshops between multi-disciplinary teams and across regional team to attain skills transfer
- Conducts weekly meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon
- Manage employee relations climate and ensure corrective action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and company policy
