Legal & Compliance Manager  Gaborone

You must be a qualified legal practitioner, ideally with a B. Com / LLB & have broad based corporate business skills, with a minimum of five years’ experience (post admission) and be a Botswana citizen (this is non-negotiable). The ideal candidate will have solid commercial and litigation experience with a reputable firm of attorneys, followed by at least 2 years in an in-house corporate position.

You need to be an above average communicator, self-motivated, performance driven professional who is able to work independently and within a team. You should be attentive to detail, deal with issues urgently as well as be a sound negotiator, analytical and have excellent problem-solving skills.

You will have additional responsibilities across three business units which include:

  • Compliance: Managing the relationship with the applicable Regulators;
    • Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations (including AML and risk management & assisting with staff training;
  • Contract management: Drafting and reviewing third party contracts, maintaining contracts registers;
  • Legal advice: Providing legal advice, research and updates to operational and group management;
  • Legal risk management: Developing and maintaining a regulatory universe; identifying potential legal risks associated with business activities.
    • Providing assurance and support to management with litigation, including debt collection and trade disputes.
  • Policy management: Drafting and maintaining a group-wide register of policies and procedures.
  • Company secretarial functions: Act as board secretary; draft resolutions & maintain all statutory records;
  • People management: Supervise the legal & compliance officer; and be
  • Fully computer literate with MS Office.

A post graduate qualification in company law, company secretarial, compliance and / or risk management would be very advantageous, as would international exposure.

The remuneration package will be in line with current trends.
