Role Purpose:

The Chicken Business is currently recruiting for Mechanical Fitters (Refrigeration) to be based at the Chicken Processing Plant in Worcester (Western Cape), reporting to the Plant Engineer. The role will be responsible to support the Engineering department by ensuring proactive maintenance, repair and service of equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or NTC 3 (relevant trade)
  • Trade test as a Fitter (Mechanical)

Required Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years relevant experience (post qualification) as a Fitter Mechanical.
  • 3 - 5 years relevant experience in maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Advantage - experience in poultry processing equipment.
  • Advantage - experience in machining.
  • Advantage - experience in breakdowns.
  • Advantage - experience in maintenance, repairs and installation of Carton Freezers and Gyros.

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Ability to co-ordinate projects.
  • Prepared to work shifts, standby, call outs and overtime when required.
  • Ability to do electrical breakdowns would be an advantage.
  • Ability to do machining will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of poultry processing equipment would be an advantage.
  • Physically fit and able to work in cold conditions, typically below -40degrees.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Service, repairs and maintenance of all mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and install Carton Freezers and Gyros.
  • Daily mechanical equipment inspection and pro-active remedial action to minimize breakdowns.
  • Breakdowns on mechanical equipment and standby duties.
  • Safety inspections and reports.
  • Continuous improvement: upgrade equipment for improved performance and reduction of maintenance cost.
  • Planned maintenance program (Improve Program to minimize downtime and costs).
  • Planning of tasks.
